Chris Choma recording the Chris Explores the Gospels podcast

Uncovering the world behind the Word.

A Catholic podcast, blog, and teaching ministry rooted in the simple desire to walk with Christ through the Gospels.

I’m Chris Choma, a Catholic teacher, podcaster, retreat minister, and contributing writer for Catholic365. For years I’ve been exploring the Gospels through prayer, good books, the Church’s tradition, and the world Jesus walked in. What I share here comes from that slow, steady journey: listening to Scripture, studying its history and culture, and letting the words of Christ shape daily life.

Through my long‑form podcast Chris Explores the Gospels, the short reflections of Gospel Snacks heard on Catholic radio, and the written meditations I publish in the blog each week, my hope is always the same: that these reflections help you see the Gospels with fresh eyes and meet Jesus more personally in the stories you’ve heard your whole life.

This ministry grows out of years teaching OCIA, ACTS retreats, and Spirit of Truth Radio Arts — places where I’ve watched the Holy Spirit move in quiet, ordinary, beautiful ways. Everything here is offered in that same spirit.

If you’re looking for Gospel reflections, Scripture study, or a simple way to stay close to Christ in the rhythm of daily life, you’re in the right place. I’m grateful you’re here.

Featured Podcast Episode

We follow Jesus into Gentile territory — a place shaped by Greek culture, Roman influence, and spiritual practices foreign to the Jewish world. There, He confronts two men living among the tombs, tormented by forces no one else could restrain. If you’ve ever felt stuck, wounded, or overwhelmed by forces beyond your control, this episode will speak hope into your heart.

“He Heals the Brokenhearted”

In this Gospel Snack, Chris reflects on Psalm 147:3 and the tender truth that God heals the brokenhearted. Whether your wounds are fresh or long‑buried, God draws near, binds up what hurts, and restores with patience and care. Let this brief reflection remind you that no wound is beyond His healing.

“Jesus and the Group Text”

I’m convinced that if Jesus walked the earth today, He’d be added to every group text within a 20‑mile radius. And Jesus — being Jesus — would stay in the group.
Because that’s what He did with people:
He stayed present.

I never expected a trout stream to become the place where I hear God most clearly. Yet in the silence, the struggle, and the humility of the river, grace has a way of rising to the surface. Here’s what the water taught me about prayer, presence, and the God who waits for us to slow down.

Why I Do This

The Gospels have changed my life—not because I’ve mastered them, but because I keep returning to them with questions, curiosity, and a desire to understand the world Jesus lived in. The more I learn about history, culture, the Church, and Scripture, the more the Gospels open up in surprising and beautiful ways.

I share this work because I want others to experience that same sense of discovery. If something here helps you see Jesus a little more clearly or understand the Scriptures a little more deeply, then this whole project is worth it.
